DescriptionI pondered this page for a while and then pulled the trigger in 2006...there are only 11 pages with BWS inking Kirby--all from this somewhat unusual story. Most either love or hate the combination...I decided I love it. Check out the Kirby background in the top panel...sweet!Social/Sharing |

Pretty Amazing......"Kirby is King".....and the inks aren't too bad.

Count me among the "love Smith inking Kirby" crowd. This chapter absolutely made "Bicentennial Battles" for me as a kid. At that time I rejected "respect the pencils" Royer and favored stylists like Sinnott, Shores, Everett and Wood over Jack. Having Barry Smith ink Kirby was a dream come true for me, these guys are the titans!

Fantastic page by two of comics' best! You can't go wrong there, my friend!

The combo of these two artist is a real surprise. I mean, it's like mixing water and oil and to see that they, surpisingly, blend. In panel 2 I see one of the strongest depictions of Cap I can remember - beautiful piece!

Fabulous page from my favorite chapter of this wonderful comic. My folks bought me the book as a present as I could not afford the price of a Treasury Edition when I was a kid; this page really brings back the Marvel Magic for me!

It's a crackers combination of two wildly skilled artists with entirely different approaches...it shouldn't work, but it certainly does on this page! BWS stays faithful to Kirby's style and energy - and that first panel is a beaut!

wow... what a great pairing... the overall look is such a hybrid of the two... top panel in particular is so great, and the last panel... so very much kirby! a really stellar page.

While Kirby/Smith purists might prefer a different team collaborating, I personally like it. You can obviously see plenty of both Kirby and Smith in the style. I think if they had worked on plenty of issues together, it might have been a very highly desirable collaboration ala Kirby/Sinnott (another inker whose inks are less than subtle).

Awesome sequence and pages, keep going!! (Oddly that top panel looks incredibly Mignola-esque).

This is gorgeous! BWS definitely put his stamp on these pages, but Kirby's beautiful design comes through perfectly, IMHO. I wish there were many more pages with this artist teamup.

" Most either love or hate the combination ..."
I've decided I love it, too. I, of course, know the book, and I was crazy about anything Bicentennial back then, but for some reason I never bought it, and this is the 1st time I've seen BWS's inks over Kirby pencils. I think it's a great look!
