DescriptionI already had a page from Neal Adams' Deadman series (and a very funny one, at that...), but there came this one where he actually appears and does what he does best (borrowing bodies, as he says...), so I couldn't resist.OK, maybe technically this doesn't fully qualify as a splash, but the first panel actually extends behind other panels to cover all the page. This is exactly the kind of inventive page layout that made my jaw drop again and again when I discovered this series!... And talk about the rest of the page! The shadows assembling on the 2 characters (especially their faces) as they bond on panel 2, as if to reinforce some sort of dark pact... The fascinating portrait on panel 4 of a man possessed in multiple ways, which gives him a very peculiar look: his eyes are clearly filled with determination, while his overall face doesn't look that alive... Compare how artificial he looks on panel 5 with his picture on panels 1 and 3... As our hero points out, this is a very awkward situation: Boston Brand, aerialst supreme, under the Deadman mask, borrows the body of the killer's latest victim's father in order to use his skills as a master of disguise to impersonate his own dead son. Talk about mirror effects!... Ah, and, yes, before I forget: this is Neal Adams inking himself!... Social/Sharing |

..Some very intense and drammatic moments take place in this page. Every event is tied to the first splash. I mean, Neal Adams is a wonderful, wonderful artist.. My Best Congrats, Al, vous avez gagné le gros lot cette fois! ; )

My Best Congrats, Al, vous avez gagné le gros lot cette fois! ; )Thanks Alessio! Neal Adams remains one of my all-time favourites and Deadman is one of his best strips ever, so... What can I say? Yes I struck lucky this time!

One of the best things about CAF is seeing pages in their original state, appreciating the gorgeous subtleties without heavy handed over saturated colours.

I feel that Deadman has been especially mistreated, as all the reprinted editions I've seen come with very heavy coloring, as if Neal Adams' art couldn't stand on its own... For my book, only the original colors in Strange Adventures really count! Given that, I admit I first read these stories in black and white, so... There's only one solution: the Artist Edition treatment! By the way, is it me or is there a definitive lack of such books with Neal Adams' art?...

In each one, there must be at least a couple pages whose original art is either on the market or lost?... In any case, it doesn't explain why they're constantly messing up the colors...
