DescriptionI know, I know!... This is as corny as it gets! Tales of the Teen Titans 50 (featuring the wedding of Donna Troy/Wonder Girl with Terry Long) is basically a chokeful of good feelings and teary eyes. And a double-sized issue at that! But you have to admit that Marv Wolfman, George Perez and Mike De Carlo pull it off exquisitely well, throwing all their talent into the wedding cake to come up with a carefully laid tale where, contrary to a lot of other instances, no last-minute threat comes and spoils the day! This sequence in itself is a marvelous pun with the only glimpses of tension begin to escalate to the sudden, completely improbable, surprise appearance of Queen Hippolyta (for an extra dose of aforementioned tears and feelings!)... Check this page where tension is escalating with a small and dense panel sequence and constantly shifting angles. Notice how we do not get to see Diana Prince/Wonder Woman's face, so that the anguish comes only from Donna's expression and how the darkness closes in on her bewildered eyes, making the reader turn the page extra fast (3rd page following, folks) to discover just who turns up at the party! Great storytelling, if you ask me! A couple of details bug me just a bit, though... - On panel one, the band rendering is somewhat ridiculous, with Dick Grayson's posture and his claiming that he used to play the guitar all the time. Come on, really? - On panel seven, Terry Long's comment that the newlyweds can "wait until tonight" before entering an unlit room strikes me as just a little tasteless... But, okay, this may be due to a bout of anxiety... Social/Sharing |

Corny? Maybe, but it's told beautifully. Great pencils and inks by Mr. George Perez. He's so talented.

Thanks Bill! Being corny is not a drawback for me, I do admit there is a certain amount of it in even the best stories and, generally, it adds to it. After all, my favorite Teen Titans issue ever is #38 aka "Who is Donna Troy?", so...
