DescriptionNow that's what I call a dynamic splash page if ever there was one!Granted, there's no costume in sight, but Ray (Atom) Palmer is in full action mode when his lightning-like reflexes kick in to make him avoid the nasty flying insect killer-robot diving on him from behind, while keeping his right hand on the wheel firmly enough not to steer off the car an inch... Now, how can he ever do that? I suppose the hum of the robot was significantly louder that the engine's car, but still... And, just at the same split-second, here comes Jean Loring in full pop-art mode, driving on the opposite side of the road, but, while visibly shaken, she also maintains a perfect trajectory. They certainly are a pair of fine drivers, these two... Oh, but wait! I hate being a spoiler, but, really, nobody could guess what happens when you turn to the next page!... While you could reasonably expect more action, Ray and Jean stop their cars in the middle of the road (yes, just after the steep curve!), rush into the arms of each other and this is just right here and then that Ray proposes to Jean! Yes! And she accepts! Oh boy... And, what about about the insect killer-robot? Huh, which robot? Oh, yes, the robot! Well, instead of pushing its advantage to launch further assault on the couple in full North by Northwest mode, it just stays floating in mid-air, doing nothing else than observing. Who says insect killer-robots had no built-in romantic inclinations? Well, obviously, all of my comments above only show my deep appreciation of that story, however corny it may sometimes turn out to be. In fact, the pace is so fast that our hero cannot even find the time for a proper proposal situation! Of course, Gil Kane's art is not a small contributor to my love for this series in general and that specific episode. I mean, except for Jack Kirby, he makes them move like nobody, costume or not! Thnaks Davide! Everytime I think I've come to a comprehensive representation of Gil Kane's artistic journey, I'm reminded of how many great series he's been involved with that I'm still missing! And it's not like he did not leave his remarkable imprinton each(the mark of Kane!). Looks like I'm not done yet...

Thnaks! I feel this is actually one of my few comics pages that could qualify as an illustration...

It only took an attempt on his life for Ray Palmer to realize the things that truly matter in life! Pure mastery of Fox, Kane and Greene to be sincere and simplify life for the kid in all of us!

Words of wisdom, Marcus! Clarity and fluidity is certainly what we are longing for in life... And this is how it translates in comic book story at its most essential and entertaining!

It's a good thing for you that you didn't do the description write-up for the recent auction for this splash as I would have bid higher! A great page enhanced by your context and affection. Congrats!

Thanks a lot for your comment! Affection is certainly the thing that cannot translate easily into auction descriptions, but, in most cases, it's the sparkle for us collectors to have a go at these pieces!

Gotta love those 1960s comic book splashes! Improbably though they may be, they sure caught our attention and got us to buy a lot of comic books. Congrats on this beauty by Gil Kane--It's a winner!

Just some outstanding forced perspective, and I dig seeing some good ol' fashioned cars featured in our superhero OA world :) Congrats, Al!
