DescriptionGil Kane...Each time I think my gallery is complete. But then pops up a very cool piece from one of his myriad major series that I didn't have the chance to locate... until now! And, here I go again... Case in point: Gil Kane's ultra-white hot take on Adam Warlock, which, before Jim Starlin, was already a very mystical, and somewhat politically-minded, character, whose almost god-like powers can bring him to spectacular triumphs, but also abysmal failures, as he's about to experience in this sequence... With the bestial Triax in panic-mode (check that outstanding portrait on Panel 4), it looks like the game is over, but the story will bring in some shocking unexpected turns, thanks to Roy Thomas, on top of his writing game! Of course, Tom Sutton provides tension-filled inks that prefectly enhance Gil's pencils... Just a reflection, but when I see how many great inkers have been involved with Gil's art, I do think they must have been a joy to work on... Social/Sharing |

Thanks Duke! Warlock is such a great character and, right after Kirby, Gil Kane pushed him some levels up!...

Thanks Rick! I never noticed it until now, but Kane had his own Krakle too!

Gil Kane was one of Marvel's top artists in the 1970s and contributed covers on just about every title imaginable. His interiors, on the other hand, are not nearly so common. Which makes his run on Warlock all the more memorable. This is a stunning example of his distinctive style with its strong figurework and expressive faces. A terrific page from a great storyline. Great pick-up, congrats!

Thanks Bill! Chance is I just re-read an interview that Gil gave some... time ago in which he was expressing pride on the work he did with Roy Thomas on Warlock. He was especially mentioning that Warthog issue as being the one he liked most... Well, I can relate to that! He also gave interesting insights about his incredible cover count for the period (the staggering number of 800 covers is mentioned!) and why his interiors were less frequent (a fact he expressed some regret on)...

Merci Adom ! Je suis bien d'accord : l'encrage de Tom Sutton est parfaitement approprié à cette séquence pleine de tension !

Thanks! I agree with you: strength is a very apt word when it comes to describing Gil Kane's art!
