Doctor Octopus and the Owl started a gang war between each other for a neutron bomb. The Owl wanted to use it to blackmail the city, Doc Ock wanted to use it to blow up New York to prove that he's the most dangerous man alive.

Spider-Man, with the aid of the Black Cat, who was revealed to be still alive, stopped Doc Ock from detonating the bomb.

As Spider-Man and Black Cat hug each other, they suddenly find themselves under attack from Owl and Ock's henchmen. Black Cat is still weak from the beating Ock gave her, so Spider-Man dives head on and tackles them. Meanwhile Black Cat notices Ock's severed tentacles are still moving, and he is willing them to go over to the activator for the bomb. Black Cat dives over and grabs the activator before the tentacles can reach it. She then smashes the activator on the floor. Ock is furious, and says Black Cat will pay for that. He then wills his tentacles to ensnare Black Cat, pinning her against a wall. The Henchmen notice that Ock's tentacles have trapped the Black Cat and take advantage of her helplessness. They open fire on her with their guns, and impale her with spears. Black Cat falls to the ground in a battered and bloody heap.

Spider-Man sees this, and shouts "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO", as he takes out each of the henchmen in an angry frenzy, as he runs towards Black Cat. Spider-Man rips Ock's arms off Black Cat and webs them up, he then tosses them out of the aerie and into the ocean. Ock howls again in pain at this. Spider-Man sees that Black Cat's pupils are dilated and her heartbeat is weak. He then picks her up in his arms and swings out of the aerie and towards a hospital. The best hospitals are across the river, but it's his only hope of saving her

COMMENTS:

It was in the 80's and the Spiderman began to live a second youth. In the main series, Amazing Spider-Man, had landed Roger Stern some time before, he was destined to become one of the best arachnid writers of all time. The spectacular Spider-Man, for his part, was fortunate to have Bill Mantlo in the scripts.

Mantlo has possibly been one of the most underrated authors who have gone through the series of arachnids. With a classic script, Mantlo will always be remembered for having created Capa and Dagger for his exceptional "The Blind Guiding the Blind" (where, by the way, Frank Miller first drew Daredevil) and the story of this page is part of .

With the Green Goblin killed a few years earlier, Doctor Octopus has become Spider-Man's archenemy on his own merits (chosen in the famous Superman vs. Amazing Spider-Man). In this story, Spider-Man gets a total defeat on Ock, not only disrupts his plans, but also pulls and rips his tentacles. This fact caused great consequences between hero and villain, since this one had panic during years.

The story is fast and with great action, all that with the great drawing of Al Milgrom, which possibly made some of the best pages of his career in this story that will become one of the comics most remembered with Spider-Man.

The top panel's the kind of thing that can only be pulled off in comics and it perfectly captures the moment.

From one of my all-time favorite storylines from the 1980s. Spider-Man loses it in unfettered fury, while Doc Ock further pays the price. "Awesome"!

Wow! Very cool Spectacular Spider-Man page by Al Milgrom! It's fun to see a storyline where Spidey is so angry he doesn't hold back and takes out his anger on the bad guys! And I've never seen Spider-man rip the arms off of Doc Ock before! Cool pick-up, congrats!
