Description

�� Mark Crilley created the Akiko on the Planet Smoo comic book. This science fiction adventure comedy ran about 50 issues, then the cartoonist transitioned to doing illustrated prose books about Akiko. This drawing is from Akiko in the Sprubly Islands. Mark has an interesting background as a former English teacher in Japan. He was part of the Trilogy Tour II in 1998 with Jeff Smith, Charles Vess, Linda Medley, Stan Sakai, and Jill Thompson. Although I haven't seen him come out West much anymore, I read his fantasy romance Miki Falls graphic novel and his supernatural murder mystery Brody's Ghost graphic novel series. Mark also produces instructional drawing books and does YouTube instructional videos. In the last few years, Mark created the graphic novels My Last Summer with Cass, The Comic Book Lesson, and Lost in Taiwan. Recently , the Etsy alerted me to an update at the markcrilley Etsy store. There were some five or six illustrations from the book: Akiko facing a lookalike character, Akiko and an exotic lizard creature, and a couple others. I was compelled by this main cast grouping and made the purchase. The other pieces were sold out in short order.

What an amazing piece by Mark. Congrats on the pickup! This was a wonderful, whimsical series that is well worth tracking down and reading for any that have not previously read it.

It's great that you can still get something from him related to Akiko. Not since the 90's when the book was in publication did we see him. Little did we know he would not be back.
