DescriptionOne More Closer To Home, 16 1/2 x 11 1/2 (420 x 292). This artwork was part of Keith's entry for "The Guild Of Aviation Artists" 2012 Annual Exhibition. I think of Keith as a good friend, so I think he would be happy if I tell you the story, on how he ran in too me, why would you wont to know, well he's gaining a new style, and it's looking good.I feel it's all down to timing, 60 seconds either way and it would not of happend. I've just pick up a work by Coton (see Hurricat WPL 662). I'm thinking I just go the aircraft museum in Coventry ( a bit out of the way, but I make a day of it). Just walking in to the museum I see a guy with a lot of artwork under his arm (looked good). I went up to him and asked if he had heared of Graham Coton, the answer was no, but He would have a look at it ( this "guy" is Keith Woodcock, who is one of the best Aviation artist in the world today (I do buy books because of the covers by him)). Keith then made time for me to see the artwork. He like it and would like to show it to the others as he was doing a talk that day, if I would stay around for three hours or so. I did not know that this was the day the Guild came to the museum one day in the year to draw and paint the planes there. End of the day a critique, first up Coton. "It's a bit rushed with a bit of damage on it ..." it went on, over all they like it. in a room of about twenty artist, there where two fan's of Coton, both to my eyes very good. The younger one was asking me questions like "what, when and where". but the best one was have I seen his all time favourite, "the one with a Bristol Beaufighter flying over a railway tracks", I turn to him and said "Yes I've got that one". Keith's work that he showed me that day and others that I've seen since has proven to me that, not only is he as good as his heroes, but in some ways, he better than them. Now he the man to do me some work. I have a painting I do not like, it so badly restored, that I don't like looking at it, and I hope I found the man to work on it. The deal was/is, his favorite cover for one of his paintings and working on "The Tragedy.." (thats the name of the painting) a work by Graham Coton (a hero for us both). This artwork is so unlike the work that Kieth had done up to that time. In the short time that I have know him (almost five months at this time of writing), he's getting to be a master of his art.
