Description

Over the years I’ve collected about a dozen color guides from my favorite book of all-time, Superman: For All Seasons. Bjarne Hansen’s colors are stunning to behold in person and it’s fascinating to see how the sausage was made before computer coloring took over the industry.

But beyond those Bjarne pages, I’ve never actively sought out color guides for my collection. However, I noticed Anthony Snyder had quite a few of John Kalisz’s color guides from Conan the Barbarian #1, a book that teenage me absolutely LOVED.

The reason I love it is because of Claudio Castellini’s dynamic musculature. I fell for Claudio’s pencils thanks to the mega-hyped Marvel vs DC crossover event and was thrilled when they tapped him to draw Conan. In my eyes, they couldn’t have found a better fit for the character.

Since Claudio’s work made such a huge impact on teenage me, I was thrilled to pick up a page of his Conan when I started collecting twenty years ago. It’s been in my collection ever since, so the idea of uniting that original page with its color guide was a no-brainer. What a visual treat to now see them resting side by side in my portfolios.

Castellini's art is perfectyl compimented by these colors! They flesh out his musculature work and skin tone of Conan's grim face. This is while color in the backgrounds add emphasis to each blow!
