DescriptionAs anyone who’s been collecting comic art for a while can tell you, this hobby can be a game of timing. When I first fell in love with Dan Slott’s She-Hulk, Juan Bobillo’s originals from the book were readily available through Mark Hay at Splash Page Art. However, as a long-time fan of Paul Pelletier, I grabbed a few of Paul’s originals but passed on Juan’s pages. As the years went by, I regretted that decision. With each reread of those issues, I appreciated Juan’s work more and more. Unfortunately, by the time I figured that out, his pages had been snatched up and Mark was no longer repping him. But just when I accepted getting a page probably wasn’t meant to be, I got some help from Michael Kirton here on CAF. He’d found one of Juan’s She-Hulk pages in the back of a portfolio Mark had brought to a con (SDCC, I think), and when I commented on it, he reached out and let me know he saw another one that he didn’t grab. That turned out to be page 9 of issue 1 and, after reaching out to Mark to confirm it wasn’t a mirage, my itch was officially scratched… until Nico Risso, Eduardo’s son, started repping Juan and made a bunch of his She-Hulk pages available. Even better, Nico had plenty of pages available from issue 1. That was the book that introduced me to Shulkie, so I grabbed every page I could get my hands on, which was about half the issue. I couldn’t believe my luck. After years of searching, I had ten pages from one of my all-time favorite comics (and a few from issue 4 featuring Spider-man). Yet a few weeks later, fortune shined on me once again when Nico let me know he received a few more pages from Juan, including two more from issue 1. Here we see Shulkie engaging with her soon-to-be frenemy, Mallory Book, right before the jury comes back with a verdict in Jen’s favor. Which, in turn, leads to the shenanigans on page 13 I’d acquired earlier. For those who’ve read it, you know these two pages are the beginning of the end of the good times for Jen, as things have been put in motion behind the scenes to set up the rest of the series… aka Jen losing her job and joining GLK&H. The scales of justice are so balanced that we get a first panel of the courthouse like it was in a Wes Anderson movie!

In the Marvel criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important types of lawyers: Blind ninjas or gamma irradiated swimsuit models.
