Description

This one was a surprise gift from Yale, although I didn’t know it at first.

I’d arranged to purchase the first two Mini Mondays from him, and since my friends Ken and Rich would be at Heroes Con this past year, I told Yale one of them would stop by to pick them up.

Ken ended up grabbing it for me the Saturday of the show. Then, later that day, Rich sent me a picture of this one and said “check out what I just bought.”

I was a little surprised, as Rich hasn’t had much money to spend on originals for a while. But he and I have always had similar taste in art, so I excitedly told him I’d purchased the finished piece from Yale and we were once again on the same wave length. I also shared the story with some of our mutual Tim Sale friends, since Rich and I became friends thanks to the master.

Yale too was a big fan of Tim, and he saw my story about Rich buying the piece. He then texted me a little confused because he gave Ken the prelim for me as a gift. As it turns out, those bums were just yanking my chain, and when they saw I shared the story they decided they couldn’t let the ruse die… and on my birthday no less!

In all seriousness, though, we all had a good laugh and I ended up with an unexpected birthday surprise. To which I can only say thanks again, Yale. It’s a real treat to see this pencils only version and compare it to the inked piece to see the changes he made from concept to completion.
