Description

Don Sherwood -- Romantic Parting Scene Original Art (c. 1950s). The absence of a publishing pedigree makes this tender romantic scene all the more cryptic and alluring. Sherwood (as identified on reverse) can be seen coming into his own here as an illustrator, still emulating the influence of the great Alex Raymond.
Sherwood was en route to a stylistic breakthrough with the 1960s comic strip Dan Flagg. The sheet contains two drawings, one surmounted. Ink over graphite on coquille board (top) and Bristol board (below). Image area, 9" x 13".

Provenance: Heritage auction 2018

It seems that the female has watched too many Hollywood movies.
