Description

When he was locked and surrounded by the monotonous pictures ha was drawing about superheroes, the terror covers for Vértice and his collections concerning mainly ESCALOFRIO, FANTOM and ESPECTROS meant a gust of blowing fresh air and an evolution for López Espí´s career.
This job was mostly carried out without the strict conditions given by a previous script or picture, so he could develop his complete freedom and creativity both in the pattern and colours chosen for these frightening terrific covers.
This specific one took him three days in 1973, working eight hours each. It´s a very well-known cover, as you can see in the "addiitional images".

Sumergido en la monotonía de las ilustraciones de super héroes,las portadas de terror para la editorial Vértice y sus colecciones de ESCALOFRIO, FANTOM y ESPECTROS, principalmente, supusieron un soplo de aire fresco y una evolución en la carrera de López Espí.
Un trabajo realizado, en su mayoría, sin el condicionante de un guión o ilustración previa a seguir y, por lo tanto, desarrollado con total libertad y creatividad, tanto en la composición como en el color de estas magistrales y terroríficas portadas.
Esta en concreto tardo 3 días en acabarla, allá por 1973, en jornadas de 8 horas diarias. Una portada muy popular, como podéis ver en las "Imágenes adicionales".
Cómo curiosidad, añadir que el editor de Vértice tenía tan encasillado a López Espí como mero dibujante de Marvel que, cuando éste se interesó por la posibilidad de realizar él dicho trabajo (las portadas de terror), increiblemente la respuesta del editor fue una escueta duda acerca de la capacidad de Rafael para llevar a cabo tal encargo.

Es alucinante el efecto de la telaraña. Mejor y más real no se puede hacer. Enhorabuena, una obra de arte.

Genial portada!!!........tremendo detalle, en esta serie de terror es donde el maestro pudo por fin desarrollar todo su potencial como artista total.

Muchas gracias.

Verla en persona es mucho más alucinante porque se ve el relieve de los pinceles. Si un ciego la palpara podría adivinar que hay dibujado.
