Description

The large text pieces were eventually replaced by computer lettering in the book. This one wasn't originally painted either, but Richard graciously offered to add the same blue wash as the one he used in the book. Image area 10" x 10". Pen & ink w/ watercolor. Richard kept changing the page numbers, so I am actually not sure if this is page 22 until I receive the book.

Why in the world would you replace Sala's wonderful typography with computer lettering? To save space? Sala's idiosyncratic lettering style is one of the things I fell in love with in his work.

This was Richard's own choice and the sole purpose was to save time. The lettering was a slow and painfully tortuous process, but I totally agree with you.
