DescriptionAfter several visits to Al's home, I asked him to do this commission. I wantedsomething reminicent of his King Comics Flash Gordon work, with a "good girl" very prominent in the illustration. We discussed this at length, and a few months later this arrived in the mail. Needless to say I was ecstatic with the results! And now, for the first time anywhere...!! Social/Sharing |

That's a fantastic piece. I really like the old school stamp of the commission. The atmosphere is hypnotic, the details are amazing. What else ?

It's interesting how the details directed the way I viewed this. First, my eye was captured by the image of the woman, and then it wandered up the vertical column, across the sky with all its horizontal line work, down to the decrepit castle and the alien tree and the spotted riding lizard and then, following the angled pathway back to the woman. Only then did I really notice the second column and the beam connecting it to the first.

What a terrific Williamson drawing! To my eye, it's got a hint of Booth in the composition and vertical cloud shapes and even some Gilberto Hernandez in the type and pose of the beautiful female --- two of my other pen & ink heroes. The handling is superb.

The dino is a throwback to his / Goodwin's star wars strip... so cool! Al was already gone when I was able to get into comic art... being able to not only meet him but also get a commission from him, and hang out at his house. I'm severely jelous of this piece. Money can't buy that experience. It's special
