Description

What is the sound of a falling angel? Maybe just a stick of wood touching the ground...

A key turning point in Frank Miller's Daredevil: Elektra is judged to be beyond redemption and left to find her own unguided uneasy balance betwen good and evil...

This is obviously a masterful page where drama unfolds exclusively within face expressions and body language. The sparse dialogues only serve to enhance the beautiful composition of each panel:
- Elektra's futile gesture on panel 1 when she's faced with rejection
- The irrevocable sentence with the blind justice portrait of Stick on panel 2
- Stone's obedient pose on panel 3 before he rises again on panel 4 and confronts his mentor on panel 5
- And finally, a completely different portrait of Stick, guilt-ridden for this moment only, head bent under the burden of one too many mistakes: failing to show mercy...

As he was finishing his run on the series, Frank Miller clearly demonstrated he was growing up by leaps and bounds and was ready to embrace greater concepts, both art-wise and story-wise...

What I dearly love about this particular page is that we are way beyond superheroes and entering the domain of classic tragedy. Perhaps this was always on the author's mind when he decided to give his character the name of Elektra!...

One last thing: while this issue credits Frank Miller as Storyteller and Klaus Janson as Penciller/Inker (+ Colorist) as per the previous 5 issues, I've always felt this penultimate stand had more of Frank Miller's art than he was credited for. After all, he does get to sign the large Elektra portait at the end. On the contrary, some pages (like the graveyard sequence) look like pure Klaus Janson (as demonstrated when he completely took over the art chores after Frank Miller had officially left the series). Going back to this page, I do believe the whole "Hymalaya sequence" that opens this issue is a well-balanced effort of pencils by Frank Miller and inks by Klaus Janson. Debate is open!

... And debate is closed! Many thanks to Luca Baldi who kindly tipped me into the right direction! Klaus Janson did the whole art on this page lightboxing from very precise layouts sent by Frank Miller (by fax from California)... You can check how beautiful these layouts are on the additional picture and congratulate Klaus Janson for his pristine job!

Great art is great art!...

Well, how i can say? It's a great, great art... I was one of the owners of this page years ago. I can tell you that Miller did the layout on a separate page so the art is layout by Miller and pencil/ink by Janson. It's an incredible intense art. If you want i have the layout's image on The Miller's page.

Thanks Luca! I admit I almost didn’t believe it when I won the auction! This is an issue I have read again and again and I cannot get tired of this story... Finding a page of this sequence looks like finding a piece of history to me!

Lovely Elektra page!

Thanks Sylvain! I loved it when Frank Miller took the time to delve deeply into his charcaters and build tragedy in them. I feel Elektra is his gretest achievement in that respect!

Merci Sylvain! If I was reasonable, I would say the Miller segment of my collection is now complete. If...
