X-9, Secret Agent Corrigan – 4-12-1978

If you collect art from X-9, Secret Agent Corrigan by Al Williamson then you know there’s a clear hierarchy to the strips. While every Secret Agent strip Williamson drew was outstanding – some are in greater demand.

In my mind the hierarchy is as follows:
1. Dinosaurs
2. Sci-Fi
3. Action
4. Good girl
5. Dialogue

Since Al drew something in the range of 5000 X-9 strips the majority tend to fall into the ‘Dialogue’ category. The ‘dinosaur’ and ‘Sci-Fi’ strips are in the minority and are incredibly desirable and seldom change hands. So, I was extremely pleased to add the superb example from the great Sci-Fi story that Al drew in 1978. This story which involved a Galactic War between two alien species. The story featured some of Al’s best work as he was able to draw a multitude of space vessels, galactic warfare and aliens. This strip from April 12th features a very Wally Wood type detailed alien control room and a large panel as the flying saucer erupts out of a lake. This entire story was reprinted in the book “THE ART OF AL WILLIAMSON”. I was asleep at the wheel the first time this came up for auction and missed it, so I was very lucky to have a second chance to acquire it. Now all I need is to find one of the rare dinosaur strips!
