DescriptionIt’s been some time since I uploaded a new Harren piece so here it is. For whatever reason, this 2/3 (or 3/5?) splash is one of those pages which I vividly remember from the series, which is no easy feat as I find that getting older and more experienced with the medium, we are less easily impressed with current releases. Here Rathraq (the scarecrowy hero) gets mishandled by the arrival of a fiery demon. The super energetic fiery swirl if one of Harren’s benchmarks with its insane sense of speed and energy. Then the demon himself is both quite fun and impressive. Fun because you have this tiny and ridiculous body (which was strangely colored over for publication) inside a bigger one and impressive because of his size. I love Harren’s character design here, the fact that not all of his body is evenly filled with fiery mass with “missing bits”, fumes and vapors. His face looks crazy intense as well. The tilted angles in both panels make for great dynamism and enhanced sense of scale. The page is also dripping with all the usual Harren stylistic trademarks: tons of inks, crosshatching, patches and zipatones, whiteout…truly a happy mess. Thanks to fellow Belgian collector Klaas for parting with it during the last CAF live (as it had been on my radar since the last one). Social/Sharing |

The sense of speed, energy and texture are the things that I like best about this artist's work. Congrats on finding something to buy at CAF CON!

Harren takes the illustrative approach with multiple techniques from fine line to heavy brush with tones and crosshatches to show different textures, shapes, fluid motion, depth, mood, and high energy.

Harren's work on Rumble is still some of my favorite from him. Fantastic page.

So much subtle detail and intricacy, mixed with those tones, THEN the energy?! Harren's hard to touch when it's all added up. Congrats!
