Description

This is from an abortive attempt by Moebius to do an animated feature film, 'Internal Transfer' (at least this is what I remember from the description when I bought them in the early '90s from Jean-Marc and Randy Lofficier). Moebius had a lot of involvement with a variety of animated projects, but none of them got close to getting his actual work on screen. I think this was his goal here. Though not signed, this is clearly from the master's hand (I have other animation drawings and cels from this project, and it's clear which ones Moebius did personally). When you compare this drawing to the cel made from it, you can see why the cel had to be hand inked - this is an original illustration by Moebius, not an animation drawing meant to be xeroxed onto a cel.

I scanned this image flopped, because I thought it showed the inking better. I like this composition better when compared to the actual cel.

2025 addendum: Internal Transfer was apparently the brainchild of Jean-Paul Appel-Gu�ry, a French new-age guru who encouraged Moebius to work on more positive and affirming imagery. Moebius fell under his spell in the early to mid 1980s. The film was intended to portray the ideas of Appel-Gu�ry, but through the lens of Moebius's imagination.
