DescriptionI admit it. I am just a war comic fan.Joe Kubert had a long career, working on more comics than can be summarized here and creating a legacy in training other artists through his school (and of course his sons). To me, I remember his distinctive artwork in his handling of Sgt. Rock, and the balance of the DC war books. This cover (from almost 40 years ago - yikes!) is a great example of his ability to use perspective and detail to create drama. I also love how he used an Eisner technique of building the title into the image. Just great for me all the way around. Social/Sharing |

This is amazing - congrats! The hand-drawn title and terrible choice presented to Sarge just enforce the tremendous impact of this cover!

Joe Kubert knew how to get the most tension out of the scene! Rock is barely hanging on himself in this vertigo inducing situation.

I'm not sure if I'm a big comic war fan, but I love 2 Sgt.'s, Rock and Fury. A really nice Kubert cover.

Awesome cover from a legenddary artist, especially like Kiubert's hand drawn title incorporated in the composition!

Tremendous Sgt. Rock cover! I love the way Kubert drew the title as a group of buildings in the background--Very Eisner-like! Beautiful drawing of Sgt. Rock clinging to the edge of the building--I love all the detail Kubert included, from the Ammo Bandolier to the hair on Rock's chest. Interesting dilemma Rock finds himself in with the Nazi threatening to blow him to Kingdom Come. Great pick-up!
