Sadly, we recently lost another titan of the Silver Age, Murphy Anderson. Rest in peace and thanks for all of the enjoyment.

Now, it’s time for a confession. I have always liked the Atomic Knights. Created by John Broome and Murphy Anderson, and first appearing in Strange Adventures #117, the Knights were a different, wacky, almost subversive comic. Generally a back up story in an anthology book, the Atomic Knights were a very different kind of story line from the start. When everyone else was showing the future in glowing terms; with high tech appliances and flying cars, this book followed the exploits of the survivors of a nuclear catastrophe (which happened in 1986 in case you missed it by the way….). Survivors from that horrific nuclear war, they found that some antique armor would protect them from the evil Black Baron’s energy weapons. Plus, they rode mutated dalmatians to get around. Mutated Dalmations!! What’s not to love??

The stories have been reprinted in a trade, which I highly recommend. Anderson’s art was terrific and, like the JLA or Legion, he started each story with a level stetting reminder of the team on the splash page. As a back up story, I’m sure that he and Broome felt it necessary to give everyone a reminder.

That’s why I was thrilled to grab the splash from Strange Adventures #150, “The Plant that Hated Humans!. "

I thought you would likely end up with this splash! Congrats, it is beautiful. Broome/Anderson's AK was one of my all time favorite SA DC runs.

Wow, great to see this historic splash! Atomic Knights gave us captivating sci-fi stories transposing medieval past and post-apocalyptic future.

This group of characters always stuck out in my mind as a nifty storyline and one I was fascinated with as a child. Murphy's artwork was always so clean and wonderful as well. A tremendous page.
