DescriptionFinally I've found a Tarzan and La page!Tarzan #3 p.27 (1977) The scene is from: "Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar" chapter 5 The altar of the flaming gods The priestesses came, and with them La, the High Priestess. Werper was raised and laid across the altar. Cold sweat exuded from his every pore as La raised the cruel, sacrificial knife above him. The death chant fell upon his tortured ears. His staring eyes wandered to the golden goblets from which the hideous votaries would soon quench their inhuman thirst in his own, warm life-blood. Social/Sharing |

Very nice Tarzan page David! Some of those top panels remind me of Joe Kubert's art.

Gorgeous page. I was going to bid but was held up and missed out, lucky you! But I am glad it wasn't bid up by me, and you won a page you wanted...fate works in mysterious ways. Now fate is saying sell it to me, or trade! :) Congrats!

Tarzan and La and Buscema and Dezuniga all combine to make a darn good page.

These early Buscema TARZAN pages are just insane. Anyone who grew up with Edgar Rice Burroughs and the original Tarzan books ate these issues up like candy. Awesome.

David, This is a fantastic page. Buscema has always been one of my favorites. The man could render any subject with amazing presence. When I first learned that Marvel had won rights to publish Tarzan and John Carter, those many years ago, I was thrilled. Buscema was the obvious, to me, pick for Tarzan. It was hard to wait for the release.I remember picking these issues up off the spinner rack when they first came out. Just beautiful work by an artist who is missed by the field of illustrative art.

Love the first four panels. How to use an ellipse the classy way.

Fabulous Tarzan page by the great John Buscema! Love the way Buscema's understanding of human anatomy enabled him to easily handle bare-chested heroes ranging from Tarzan to Conan. Every scene shows his mastery of the human body. Outstanding pick-up!
