This weekend is Gay Pride in LA-my hometown-so I wanted to post pages of new LGBT characters in comics.

In a story where the reader becomes a part of the drama, this page spoke to me more than any other original piece of art that I own. First, Grant Morrison is one of my most beloved writers over the years. From Animal Man and beyond, he has always challenged my own preconceived ideas of what can be a superhero. Second, Red Racer is immediately shown as being gay having a tense and loving conversation with his partner Flashlight, an analogue to Green Lantern. I missed buying that page but I was happy to get this page that features Red Racer from Earth-36 as he introduces himself to the group-Gay and a Comic Book Fan! Third, this pages introduces the gender-bent Aquawoman from Earth-11! Finally, the reason why I love this page the most is that Red Racer�s alias is Ray and he is a slight color of brown in the comic. Ray is my first name and I am Filipino (brown) plus he is a speedster. Flash is my fav superhero after Superboy because I am a marathon runner and physician (Hermes). So this page really spoke to me on many levels.

I am am hoping Ray AKA Red Racer along with his partner Hank AKA Flashlight find more adventures together in the DC Universe. Thanks to Grant Morrison for giving the character more of a story in such an important canon in the DC Universe. Thanks to Ivan Reis for such beautiful artwork and Ivan Costa for helping me get this page all the way from Brazil!

Update 11/4/2015:
I got my page signed by Grant and got a cuddly selfie with him. I was first in line and got to chat about the signficance of the page to me. He said he loved Red Racer and Flashlight and really wanted to flesh out their sexuality and their relationship more. I asked him if he had thought about the ethnicity of the character and he hadn't...yet!
