DescriptionA single Dorian Vallejo wasn't enough for me, so I decided to pick up a second! Dorian painted this fantastic piece as the cover art for Andrew J. Offutt's "The Shadow of Sorcery", published by Ace in 1993. Dorian mentioned to me that the cat depicted in the painting was actually modeled on Rowena Morrill's cat. Dorian's mother was friends with Rowena and so he used her cat as the reference. Very cool!Oil on illustration board 15.5” x 26.5” Social/Sharing |

This painting has a really nice depth to it as it fits so many elements to a normally tight space. You don't think about it too much because of how well it is pulled off to communicate what it needs to in order to bring this great excitement from the powerful glowing skull!

Marcus, I think the composition is what really drew me to this one. It's so well thought out and balances. A real gem.

Wow! So much to love about this piece. The mirror reflection that isn't an actual reflection other than in the world of sorcery. The color palette is tremendous. The contrast is evocative. I am not familiar with the source material, and way off the Batman reservation that I exclusively collect, but happy that CAF gives me the opportunity to enjoy such a gorgeous piece.

Thanks for all of the great worlds, David! It really is an amazing piece. And to think Dorian was only around 24 when he painted this. He was only an illustrator for about 10 years, but he really did some amazing work in that time.
