DescriptionThis is an “Avengers vs. X-men” tie-in, which pits Thor against the Phoenix Force. Comics legend Walter Simonson filled in the pencilling duties for the tie-ins, adding to his seminal Thor run. For the uninitiated, he is best known for his work on Thor which he began writing and drawing with issue #337 in 1983. Simonson took nearly complete control of Thor, during which he transformed Thor into a frog for three issues and introduced the supporting character Beta Ray Bill, an alien warrior who unexpectedly proved worthy to wield Thor's hammer, Mjolnir.The page depicts Simonson’s version of modern Thor as he flies off to face the Phoenix Force for a second time after his initial defeat in the same pages. “Avengers vs. X-men” involves the return of the Phoenix Force and the subsequent war between the Avengers and the X-Men. Incredibly striking page and Simonsen art is rare because he keeps anything he inked himself. The inker works well with him unlike many others.
