Description“I’ve always been skeptical about comic art and original comic art commenting. However, everything changed one day, when the CAF CEO referred me to the comicartfans app. Initially I was scared, but I learned to take risks, and it paid off. I invested 500 comments and recieved guaranteed internet scorn in less than 2 weeks of comments...”It's was very Transformers August in 2024! 1) The anniversary of the release date of Transformers the Movie was 8/8/86. A very traumatic moment in many children's lives as Optimus Prime and Gen1 was brutally put down by Hasbro bean counters. 2) Skybound released Transformers #11 of their hit ongoing series on 8/14/24. They then released a reprint of the 1984 Transformers #1 on 8/28/24 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the franchise. Don't forget 8/28 is also Jack Kirby's birthday! 3) A Daniel Warren Johnson painting of Megatron against Optimus Prime for the Matrix of Power was posted on CAF 8/27/24! This was previewed on his Fridays with DDubs youtube show a few weeks prior to SDCC 2024. There was a long wait to get the painted pieces on preview night and I was even accused of being a Flipper McGee while in line. Doesn't that guy read the CGC boards to know that flipping Felix's art will only net you marginal if not negative ROI as opposed to bitcoin and crypto? The current ongoing Energon Universe builds upon a wave of 80's nostalgia and introduces new concepts that stay true to the core of what made it popular in the first place. A world of GI Joe and Transformers seems too fantastical, but as with all Daniel Warren Johnson works, there is great human drama of a war comic behind the conflicts making this more than meets... you know the rest. A double Eisner winner this year who's still expanding his creative horizons, DWJ continues to write Transformers and is now working on a project with Riley Rossmo, "The Moon is Following Us" coming out September 18th. Ok, that is in September. That's because the Transformers fun doesn't end in August. Transformers will once again be in theaters this September 20th with Transformers One! A true legacy is to let this franchise reach a whole new generation and have it bring as much fun to them as it has to you. I did not grow up with Transformers as a kid-more the GI Joe era. When DWJ started to do Transfomers I had to add that to my subscription list and it did not disappoint.
This is a great image for your collection and thanks for sharing the story behind the piece and the tribute song to Bill "Devo" Cox.
When the app goes live I wonder how many more comments you will be able to make!!

DWJ on Transformers is almost - ALMOST - as epic as Marcus Wai on song lyrics. :) Beautiful piece, Marcus. Megatron brings the hurt with a firestorm raging behind him. Fantastic piece, Marcus! Congrats!

Wow, killer piece! Transports me right back to when I first saw the movie. Also cool that the color of the flames in the background remind me a lot of Hot Rod and what's to come. Congrats!

But Marcus....the hero is getting destroyed by the villain! Nonetheless, outstanding illustration and colors. So large, too. I can't imagine how many thousands of simoleans this must've cost to acquire. But if they publish it as a cover, whatever that number is will end up being very cheap. So much energy in this piece! Congrats on such a big get!

Spectacular DWJ painting of warring robots! I'm loving his take on Transformers, despite my being too old to have experienced TFs as a kid and only getting into it in 2024. Love all your commentary and additional con photos as well, as usual. How did Bill get immortalized in LEGO miniature? They need to amblazon the logo for his favorite soda (Stavia??) on the cup to make it clear this is really Bill

This is the greatest CAF post that I have seen in my time on the site. It has everything!!! I almost spit my coffee out at the opening quote.
The extensive history, additional images, and hit song “Flip It” all combine with a modern day DDubb painted masterpiece to form a Marcusbot greater than the sum of its parts. And that is saying something, because the parts alone are pretty, pretty good. I would have helped you carry those Carol Days. Two man job, 60/40 split since you found them.

OMG! You picked up this one??!!! Wow. I am so jealous. What a stunner of a painting. But then, I love all the work that DWJ has done on Transformers. His writing has been superb. His art has been killer. And now he's doing these amazing paintings on top the rest? What a great year DWJ is having. I can hardly wait to see "The Moon is Following Us." If the past is any indication, it's gonna be fantastic.
