DescriptionMy Megacon experience was terrible. I missed out on an Alex Maleev sketch opportunity and Jock didn't show up for two days at his table. When they did show up, I was Sticky stuck recording the Todd McFarlane and Clayton Crain panels. I could have gotten other sketches in my sketchbook if I would have known of the Maleev and Jock no shows. Too late then as my life is ruined! Too many lines. Too many people. Too expensive. It was a wild Goose chase as far as I'm concerned. I wish there was a better con for artwork in Orlando.Good thing luck was on my side in March as one end of the rainbow ends with the smiling Irish eyes of Felix. My yearly modern Transformers original art posting streak lives on for another year with this painted piece by Daniel Warren Johnson of Optimus Prime. Measures 12" x 16" and done in paint. He sprayed on the pink background, put down a loose outline, then went to town with the brush. He even let some of the paints dry out a bit to have some deeper color surface edges that you see on the left for the arm. It's an expressionists take on Optimus Prime. Quite simple, but very effective. As Anthony would say, I'm only good for $300 claims. This is one of them. Speaking of Mr. Snyder, Happy St. Patrick's Day from the Crotch Goblin! The other end of the rainbow leads to the crotch of gold! It smells like corned beef and cabbage in here. Crotchy dressed himself up in a pinch. Social/Sharing |

Angelo Wai! Please let your wife handle the comic collecting as she knows what she needs in her collection and you just post art for appreciation on eBay. Lovely art and in red for St Patrick's Day no less! Why do you get off so much on showing off your Johnson?

A wonderful piece! Love it when DWJ messes with the paints and airbrush!

Dude, I think it's time you stop travelling to so many shows. Everyone you go to, people ignore you or blow you off completely. First OAX, now MegaCon? Maybe it's something about Florida.
At least you got a cool Optimus painting out of it!

Less is more with this beauty from DWJ- he still captures Optimus' heroic essence, but the pink background suggests just enough- is he fighting through an energy blast? Fading into view from a distance? Baby, who cares? It's beautiful!

no way, that's sick! I'm sorry you had a bad experience at Megacon, Marcus. It must be so painful now, bringing up deep internal reflection within you about being involved in a hobby with so many human beings in it with lines to wait on behind them, even standing next to your wife seems like a challenge in those situations. but challenge be damned here in this masterpiece by DWJ, where lines are less of a concern versus the loose painted strokes of a modern master. perhaps contacting artist representatives and working out a plan for a specific price in the future is the ultimate lesson learned. Luck of the Irish indeed

Sorry Megacon let you down, Marcus. But what a winner of a piece this is! DWJ's pastel toned Optimus Prime is a revelation. Love how he fills the frame

Hard to decide if my favorite part of this is the piece, the additional images, or the story. All of it is looking pretty, pretty good from here.

2026 OAX is calling your name Marcus! A place where dreams come true and grails are had. Maybe we will see DWJ there next year as well?

Not quite fully impressionist, but Prime is definitely getting a little high on the Matrix shamrock Guinness ice cream pie.

Sorry about your disappointing Megacon experience. But yeah, finding this beauty at the end of the rainbow is definitely a wonderful way to celebrate St Paddy's Day. Major congrats!

Unfortunate that you had such bad luck at the show but hot damn, you ended up with a nice Prime piece. The pink really does work in this painting. Congrats!

Optimus Prime. DWJ. Forget that stupid Con no show fiasco. Not surprised you grabbed something great like this. I love DWJ Transformers.

Daniel Warren Johnson can do no wrong. What a fabulous painting of Optimus Prime by Mr. DWJ. I didn't even know he could paint! I love the different textures Daniel was able to achieve here. The way the paint dried on the right arm gives it a completely different look than the brighter, smoother textures on his shoulders--Yet it's all just metallic surfaces! Great use of color here, too. I love the cobalt blue helmet contrasted with the red body and pink background. For a guy who does most of his work in black and white, DWJ may have a future doing color work as well. Great pick-up, serious congrats!

Soooooooper cool, Marcus!! Wow - a painted DWJ (with all the flair and style you'd expect)! I know you said that righteous pink background was airbrushed on, but is it okay if I modify the story a bit to imagine that he actually applied it via roller, and was sitting there making car noises and shouting, "Rooooolllll out!" as he was working? Appreciate it! Great, fun, special piece! Congrats, Marcus!

"You got the powerrrrr....YEAH!"
Lovely red strokes through this optimal Optimus rendition! DWJ does it again. Are we surprised?! Nada! But we are indeed "entertained!"
Congrats, man - big get after an otherwise rough start to the show :)
