DescriptionXmas 1969: super heroes were still a new quantity to me at that time... Hot on my list, though, were myths and legends, with special mention to the Iliad and Odyssey (well, talk about a natural link from one to the other, right?).So, for that Christmas, I received from my grandparents a large book packed with antique legends. I loved it! Loved it so much in fact, that the long-battered volume is still standing proudly in my shelves... Of course, what grabbed me in first was the irresistible force of this front cover, an epic, larger-than-myth depiction of the war of Troy! This came courtesy of Yves Thos, a top-notch illustrator whose work in the 60's for the movie industry made him justly famous. While very busy with those, he also took time to illustrate the front covers of some of the most memorable adventures strips of the time. That's why I was already attuned to his style when I opened my Christmas package, that year. Now, it's 45+ years later and, while looking for other stuff, I suddenly find myself in front of the very same cover, but this time it's the real real thing: a large painting with striking, vibrant colours. The poster for a film never made, but that I can still see in my dreams! That irresistible force drags me in again, I find myself a little boy on the fields of Troy again... Mr Thos, you're my man!
