Yes art fans -- you are looking at the super controversial 1978 Earl Norem original art pencils of the Silver Surfer Graphic Novel.

Artist Earl Norem, remembered for his painted covers for Marvel and his "Mars Attacks!" cards for Topps, passed away Friday, June 19th, 2015 at age 91. Comics fans will most likely recognize his work from the 1978 Silver Surfer graphic novel by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott.

In an effort to make the graphic novel seem more "prestige" and appeal to a wider audience, Stan asked Earl to create a painted cover for the book based on the Kirby original art. The idea was to draw in people who didn't really value comic books as a reading media. The controversy was that Stan Lee rejected the Jack Kirby version of the cover and went with this version by Earl. Love it or hate it, it's a great work of art from the hands of another comic book master -- Earl Norem.
