Description5 pieces finally resurface from the original Random House Archives sale in 2005! I bid on these back then but ran out of money. Haha. Always so wonderful to re-find art that you never thought you would be able to find again. This art seems to have cloud demons in the green background that are overlooking the hell coach. The green background is rather rare for Wilson, and is very beautiful in person. The comic story is really cool in that it tells of a man named Weir(in history a man with same name tried to disprove demonology in his book De Prestigious Daemonium-considered first book on psychology in 1568), who pretends to be a preacher only to announce on his death, he is in consorts with the devil, and can prove it. His staff apparently has a beautiful woman on it, but when you turn it over it is a carving of the devil. He then haunts the house in the story until exorcised out of the home, a la the Conjuring. There is truly nothing new under the sun. Wilson captured the whole story in one painting. Pretty good trick. Multi-dimensional piece. Mr. Wilson died on December 7. He was at Normandy on D-Day, on December 7th. A man recognized too late. Social/Sharing |

Thank you again for posting your collection. The information you have in the descriptions is priceless. I never knew Mr. Wilson was at D-Day. That only makes this man more of a legend in my opinion.

Thank you Brian. There is a lot more to Wilson's paintings than most realize. In spite of his schedule of producing paintings, he managed to throw in an underlying tale in most of his paintings. You just have to search for it. I have one of 10 copies of Weir's De Prestigius Daemonium from 1568(with a vellum that is not very wholesome, to say the least), that contains the list of demons you can conjure up if you dare. While he did not believe in witches, instead thinking they were psychological condtions, making him the father of psychology basically, he did very much believe in evil and demons. He was in fact the opposite of the Witchfinder General; and hence his books were banned and possession warranted your death in the inquisition. It is such an important book it has been translated into English. Generally unheard for most latin books from the 1500's.
Mr. Wilson is indicative of how great the men and women of that time were. They just took of business, and never spoke on it. We need them now.
