Description

Joe Chiodo was painting superhero trading cards and doing colors for Wildstorm comics some twenty years ago. I bought some of his books such as Joe Chiodo: how to draw and paint pin-ups from Hermes Press. Joe was a guest at East Bay Comic Con in Concord. I arrived early and saw Joe setting up. There were five paintings laying on the table. Two large Caitlin Fairchild, one Poison Ivy, a headshot with background, and a pink haired girl. Jerome Ranft of Pixar was chatting with Joe about NC Wyeth and JC Leyendecker. Steve Leialoha advised a trip to the Haggin Museum in Stockton to see the Leyendecker collection. The first customer picked a vintage Grifter Shi color guide. A friend indicated interest in the headshot with background. Joe quoted a price for this Poison Ivy and the pink haired girl. The price was right and my con was a definite success. For available Joe Chiodo artwork, he says to look up 5J on Facebook. That's the dealer helping him sell artwork. I believe this is oil and acrylic paint as Joe describes many of his works in the how to book.
