Description

The sketch of Swamp Thing and Abby by Stephen Bissette and John Totleben (commissioned and received on October 27, 1984) is the first piece of original art I ever owned. As I said in my description of the sketch, they were my idols. Their run remains one of my all time favorites.

Much later, I was lucky to purchase a number of sketches by Stephen Bissette. However, even before I really collected original art, I have wanted a published Swamp Thing page by the team.

This page features Nukeface, a toxic waste swilling man monster who kills Swamp Thing’s body forcing him to grow a new one, Wallace, who is responsible for the waste, and his compassionate wife Treasure, whose encounter with Nukeface is ultimately fatal.

Abby’s friend Chester later gives Wallace a piece of one of Swamp Thing tubers to ease Treasure’s suffering

Classic Alan Moore and Bissette / Totleben collaboration on the page. A tragic tale and one that is very moving due to the artistry.
