Description

This magnificent piece of original art was created for the cover of DETECTIVE COMICS #940, the issue featuring the "Death of Red Robin". The story had an immediate and huge impact on Batman and the team and looks to have long term effects and plays a part in a future crossover.

Batman and this team are fully shown, surrounding the body of Robin.

IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!

There are a 3 pieces of original art patches that were created for the finished cover and will be sold as part of the set with this artwork.

1st PATCH

The first is obvious to readers of the book. Eddy Barrows original depicted the broken body of Red Robin laying on the ground in the center of the piece. PATCH art was created to cover Red Robin's body to portray a fallen soldier. This soldier patch was drawn on 8 x 11" standard office paper.

2ND PATCH

The unexpected additional piece is a full figure Batman! Editorial asked Eddy to redraw Batman as cape-covered. This original artwork is done on standard 11 x 17" bristol board.

The 2nd patch was reduced, copied and physically adhered to the original cover artwork, so that the original image is not viewable.

The 3rd patch is of Clayface's arm, which was digitally placed over Red Robin's standing form, to remove the character from the image, if editors chose to do that.

All the pieces were pencilled by Eddy Barrows, who also used copic markers for fuller effect. Eber Ferreira completed the image with his extraordinary inks!
