DescriptionWolverine digs his claws into Roughouse in the first panel and lots of Buscema Wolverine goodness in the rest of the panels as well. Wolverine goes up against the Vampiric Bloodsport who's got a healing factor that matches Wolverine's, who was going by Patch in those days, while he hung out in Madripoor since the X-men were presumed dead.Always loved Wolverine's black stealth suit but always wondered about the cross hatched netting that he wore in the 5 issues previous to this one. When I first read the comic as a kid, I always thought how does he put on the net mask and how does it stay on? Wasn't until many years later where it was revealed that it was black makeup which made more sense and I guess a topic of discussion amongst collectors over the years. This issue got rid of the cross hatch look and went with more of a darker shadow to mimic the makeup. In fact, in this piece of art, Wolverine's eyes were all covered in whiteout and red pen outline where Buscema used cross hatching previously. I guess it was an editorial decision that the netting was not realistic and was removed for the final. I personally liked the netting look myself. The black stealth suit would only be used by Wolverine one more time in the next issue and never seen again (I guess fans didn't like it too much). ![]() Social/Sharing |

Not only do you get Wolverine by Buscema on this page, but in every single panel?! That's a killer score, Tommy!

I liked the suit and vote to bring it back but I also like peanut butter and bacon so perhaps I'm not best person to be making these decisions.

GWUHH! I've been stabbed in the gut by awesome. I remember this scene well, and loved this series. Williamson over Buscema looks great here. And thank you for taking the time to create that effect between the published page and the original art. It's pretty neat able to see the differences like that. Very much appreciated. And huge congrats!

Great battle page and from early in the series! Wolvie's black stealth suit is also seared into my brain from when I first saw it on the cover of Wolverine #1 at my LCS - you've got some great shots here. And I really dig those lines in panels 2 and 3 - adds a nice effect in panel but also some nice juxtaposition to the overall page! Congrats!

From one Tommy to another. great page from Big John's -sadly waaay to short - run and Williamsons rough inks match perfect. This page would perfectly fit to my pg 11 from that classic issue :)
