DescriptionI don't consider myself as having a grail piece, but this amazing piece of artwork may come pretty close to one. I've loved Bill Willingham's artwork since he was doing D&D work for TSR. A true grail for me would be a painting of his from pretty much any D&D module cover. I also always loved his work on Elementals. This piece is amazing because it is painted and it has so much original pencils on it too. It's huge, a whopping 15" x 22". If I never find that D&D painting I can rest happy that I've found this. This cover was published in August of 1984, Elementals #1 came out 3 months later.Social/Sharing |

Simply AMAZING!!!!! I too have fond memories of Bill's D&D and Elementals artwork. I feel his D&D work is out there in some private collection that will eventually come to surface...and boy what a day that will be for all vintage D&D art lovers!!!

WOW! I too followed Willinghams work from D&D to Villains & Vigilantes to Warp (Outrider was awesome!) and of coarse to The Elementals (still one of my faves). He was one of my first big inspirations as an artist. This piece is amongst one of my favorites by him. I would have loved to see him do an entire issue in this beautifully hand colored style. Still looks great! A timeless piece! Congrats!!!

What a talent, it's a shame he didn't produce more work. This is just a stunning piece and the best Elementals piece I've ever seen. Congrats!

Ah, Bill, if only some of his D&D work would turn up - I too have much fondness for that work. This Elementals piece is gorgeous! Congrats

Sockamagee! Obviously your site is just too damn big if I have missed seeing this one for the last eight years. Fortunately, I was watching you a recent episode of CAL on YouTube and saw it proudly displayed behind you. (All hail "multi-revenue streams"!) Anyway, I quit watching the video to come over here, find and write this. Cheers to the 80's! (PS: Is it acceptable when the right nostalgia buttons get pushed or is three exclamatory sentences in one comment just too much? Asking for a friend.) I'd write more but I have to get back to the vid. Later.

I bought Elementals #2 off the "newstand" around 1984, and I hunted down a #1. This is great!

Love Willingham's art dating back to his work for TSR on D&D, and I also bought Elementals when it first came out. This is a great piece with all the main characters. Love how the pencils contrast with his vibrant paint work, creating a dramatic effect. Cool how only the good guys are in color too.
