Lu Kimmel has done consistently nice work, with paperback covers being some of his best output. Beautiful Corpse and Hell Strip are a couple of my favorites and some of the best examples of the genre. I picked up this uncharacteristically tranquil Kimmel piece recently, mostly because I have a soft spot for pretty girl art. It accompanied the story "O, Happy Isle" by Nard Jones in the October 14, 1950 issue of Toronto's Star Weekly. Interestingly, "O, Happy Isle" appeared in the United States in July 1949 in This Week Magazine accompanied by a completely different illustration by Geoffrey Biggs. The Star Weekly version of the story had some minor changes, presumably to tailor it to the Canadian audience. Social/Sharing |
