Description

As I said in an earlier description, I am on a Caniff TATP tear. This is a nice daily from 1936 from the story that introduced Burma. In that story, Burma, Pat, and Terry found themselves at the Wingate Plantation. Here Burma talks to Mrs. Wingate as she tries to hide the suitcase full of jewels she had stolen.

I was always amazed that Caniff opted to dress Burma in such an ornate dress... that he had to draw repeatedly for months.

That first panel reminds me of the first shot in "Lost in Translation". It'll get you hooked for sure.

What a terrific Terry and the Pirates daily! I love Milt Caniff's early stuff! He always filled his strip with interesting characters like Burma, who's featured in this one. Caniff had a marvelous style that allowed him to create all sorts of characters, each with distinctive looks and distinctive personalities. He really put his heart into every panel of his strip and included multiple camera angles like he was storyboarding a movie! Boy, they don't make comic strips like this any more! Great pick-up, by way!
