Description

Wow...I didn´t think I would find another page that could match (just my humble opinion) my First Dime Scrooge page, but this one does...I´m really very very happy to add this gem to my collection and the fact that my oldest son was able to share the exitement of the auction (and the subsequent jubilation) with me, makes it just that more special... :-))

This page was originally meant as the lower half of page 20 of "Back to the Klondike", which was first published in January 1953 in the second Uncle Scrooge comic book (Four Color 456), making it one of the oldest (and best) surviving Scrooge pages. This story holds a special place in the heart of most Duck collectors (the INDUCKS ranks it #1 of all existing 38000+ Disney comic stories), as in the end the reader gets to see Scrooge´s soft side for the very first time...
The page was originally cut from the story as Scrooge admits to an offense, not having paid his taxes on the claim...46cmx32cm...

Between 1942 and 1966/67 Carl Barks wrote and drew over 6700 comic book pages, most of which have sadly been destroyed. Only a mere 200 pages have survived the times... From his best period, the 1940's to late 1950's only about 40 pages have survived (30 if you discount the Milkman story which was stolen from the Disney archives) almost all of these because they were censored, either by the Disney editors or Barks himself. If you are looking at Scrooge pages only a handful have survived from the best period, the early/mid 1950's...

Congratulations Monty! This is such a stunning piece!! Museum quality, the 1st story out of 38395 stories (now) according to COA users, from Barks' best period. There is so rarely for sale Barks' pages from 1940s & 1950s! I don't have even idea when it was sold previously, could it be from the first owner after Barks? You should dig out its provenance, this is part of cultural heritage in Barks' fandom! ;-)

The elegance with which Barks draws the duck here on this page is simply exquisite. Such finesse in that linework and such character in those faces and poses.
