DescriptionOutside of comic art, my favorite thing to collect is illustration art. No nostalgia. Simply Art for Art's Sake. Before this, the only other George Brehm art I had seen was one of a group of young boys playing marbles. Loved it as was reminded of my childhood, but didn't pull the trigger and regretted it ever since. As in that piece, this one really has great acting and emotion. That one had excitement and competition, while this one is a bit more melo-dramatic. This is a charcoal piece and quite large. Loved the composition and acting in particular. Used as a story illustration in the March 1935 Saturday Evening Post magazine. (see other images below) Thanks for visiting my gallery! Social/Sharing |

Now I feel the need to know why she is so upset! purely from an art standpoint it's an excellent illustration piece, loving the varying degree of detail in the figure work from background to foreground and looks like it is in incredible shape/condition for being 90+ years old! congrats on the great illustration art addition!

This really is a great looking illustration. The acting abd posing from the various characters is very emotive. Some have a hint of a smile, some seem concerned, some could give a s#it. Definitely makes the viewer want to know more from this story. Congrats on this fun historical illustration. Cheers!

Great looking illustration. Nice trick with the mirror images looking on. Is it in a circular frame, square frame with circlular mat cut out or a piece of art that is cut as a circle? Please bring this if you can in two weeks, I'd like to see it in person.

This one tells a story which is what all (good) illustrations should do.

I always really enjoyed drawing with charcoal, but it's tricky to work with when you're inexperienced. However, when you're very experienced, the range of shading you can achieve with it is very impressive, as Brehm illustrates here.
