DescriptionCarl Barks: Go Slowly Sands of Time Storybook Painting #12 Preliminary Artwork Original Art (c. 1975).In 1968, Carl Barks was asked to create new Disney stories for the Danish market, as they had run out of stories to reprint. Barks could not be convinced to produce a story, but he was talked into producing a synopsis and plot for someone else to break down and draw. The project fell flat. In 1975 he was interviewed for a film on comic artists and asked if he had a script to show them. The synopsis for "Go Slowly Sands of Time" was all he had at that time. The film's director showed it to the right people, and then Barks ended up producing 12 paintings for the story to be produced in a storybook format (published in Uncle Scrooge McDuck: His Life and Times). This is the second attempt for painting #12 (diving back in the money bin). The top margin indicates it is 12-B, and says "Right or Left Page". This prelim is created by "the Good Duck Artist" in graphite and color pencil on paper with an image area of 7" x 10.5". It is signed in the bottom edge and Disney-stamped there as well. A iconic piece, Uncle Scrooge diving money!! (Heritage 2016 August 4-6 Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction - Dallas) A partire dal 1975 Barks ha realizzato 12 dipinti per una storia illustrata “Go Slowly Sands of Time” pubblicata nel 1981 sul volume “Uncle Scrooge McDuck: His Life and Times”.Questo è il secondo preliminare per l’ultima illustrazione n.12 (diving back in the money bin). Social/Sharing |

I must admit that Barks' first-sketches-firsts are often much better than the final paintings. In fact, while in the preparatory sketches you still can "feel" tha hand of the artist, the final paintings, instead, show the many touches and re-touches the artist went through in order to obatain the results he wanted to. Thus, the painting looks perfect, but, compared to the sketch, it lacks feelings... At the end, here you can really feel the comic-artist at his best.

owning a Barks' piece is a dream for each and every serious Disney comic books fan... and this is a magnificent prelim! Scrooge diving into his money is for sure one of the most iconic pictures you can think of :)
