DescriptionThis is one of the last paintings the super-prolific German artist Johnny Bruck finished before his death on October 6, 1995. He died as a result of a motorcycle accident when he crashed in Herrsching am Ammersee, Germany, riding without a helmet. It was published just a few weeks later on November 9, 1995. By 1995, this would have been considred a retro look of sci-fi. However, Bruck's painting skills were very advanced knowing when and where to use different techniques and the colors that would bring the most dazzling displays to the eyes. There isn't any element on this painting that isn't worthy of more study.

Really interesting, beautiful, and obviously late Bruck cover. Maybe it's just me, but I sense more influences in this than most Bruck pieces. The spaceship design looks a lot like one from one of Frazetta's Famous Funnies covers, and the color and vibe overall reminds me of more mainstream space painters from the 80s and 90s such as DiFate and Boris. That funky yellow organic spire feels like something from a Powers cover. In any case, it's a nice painting!
