Description

As Rod Stewart once sang "Every picture tells a story." And that's certainly true of this wonderful painting. This is Ian's second take on the north wing of Gormenghast Castle based on Mervyn Peake's trilogy. He started this piece in the early 1990s and then it sat for 15 years while he worked on some other projects. It stayed hidden all that time, until he dug it out around 2008 and agreed to finish it at the urging of collector Gregg Spatz. Greg held onto it for several years before selling it to collector Ryan Metzger. I was able to pry it out of Ryan's hands and I plan to hold onto it tightly! The detail here is just incredible. The piece was published in Spectrum 17. Acrylic ink and watercolor on board 26" X 17."

Breathtaking scale and sheer amount of work as every element had to be etched out by hand!
