DescriptionAmazing Spider-Man vol. 1 # 57 Page 12. February, 1968Appearing in "The Coming of Ka-zar!" Editor-In-Chief...................... Stan Lee Cover Artist........................... John Romita Sr Writers.................................. Stan Lee Pencillers.............................. John Romita Sr. / Don Heck Inker..................................... Mike Esposito Colourists............................. unaccredited Letterers............................... Sam Rosen Editors.................................. Stan Lee The legendary John Romita Sr. and Don Heck Pencils, with Mike Esposito Inks, from the Classic Amazing Spider-Man 1967 story titled: "The Coming of Ka-Zar!" Spider-Man featured in ALL 6 panels! Captain Stacy featured in 3 panels (from his EARLIEST KNOWN ORIGINAL ART ISSUE, first appearance in AS #56). And the beloved Gwen Stacy featured in 2 great panels! ************************* COMMENTS: When Steve Ditko, the creator of Spider-Man, left Amazing Spider-Man in the mid-60s, with a little more than 40 comics drawn, Stan Lee found himself in a difficult position: to replace it. The chosen one was "a certain" John Romita. This exceptional penciller of New York was the best choice he took. With Romita to the pencils, The Amazing Spider-Man give an unexpected twist. The argument, which had already focused on the heroic life of our Spider-Man, became the soap opera. Secondary characters like Gwen Stacy or Harry Osborn gained in importance and all received with open arms to Mary Jane, personage that designed Romita and that it enamored to all the readers of the series. For readers it was as important as the Rhino as if Peter finally got out with Gwen. And it is that John Romita was not a simple draftsman. At that time Stan Lee used what is known as the "Marvel method", where he wrote the arguments of history and drawings with great weight at the time of writing history. What would have been Spider-Man without John Romita? Possibly it would have triumphed, but never would have reached the fame and the level that Romita granted. And not only with his arguments, but also with his incredible art, which gave vitality and realism to drawing. John Romita's Spider-Man influenced countless artists in the ensuing decades. Ditko graphically created the character, but Romita made it the icon he is now. As for the original page, occupy all the elements that made great the arachnid stage of John Romita. In the first vignette we see the great Spider-Man who defined Romita, with the strength and grace that characterized it. On the rest of the page we see something that defined Spider-Man on the drawing stage: the secondary ones. John Jameson, Captain Stacy and, above all, Gwen was key in these years. Amazing is the despair of Gwen in the last panel, which Romita so well knew how to capture. He did it so well that the characters that accompanied the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man worried us as much as he did. Spider-Man, Gwen, heroism, passion, drama, ... This page brings together each and every one of the elements that characterize Romita's stage in Amazing Spider-Man, a unique piece of an even more unique author.
