DescriptionA key scene from the Clone Saga, the Jackal here tells Spidey that he's a clone. That statement turned his world (and the comic reader's world) upside down. This was Marvel's rival response to the Death of Superman and Knightfall as those issues were flying off the shelves and breaking record sales. Controversial to say the least, the idea of Ben Reilly taking over as the real Spiderman didnt really sit well with fans therefore it was determined to reverse everything (which isnt too hard in comics). And an interesting fact is that Dan Jurgens (who was working on the title at the time) is said to have had a big part in convincing Marvel to bring Pete back as the real Spidey. Social/Sharing |

Nice! Key moment from the Clone Saga and you've got some nice shots of both Pete and Ben! Congrats, and keep 'em comin'!

Great page, Riz! Oh man, it was SO much fun watching the Jackal mess with the minds of Peter and Ben during the whole Clone Saga, and as Spidey fans, none of us knew WHAT to think. And this page is one of the best examples of that 'mind messery.' Looking back, of course we all wanted Peter to be the real deal, even after the big laboratory reveal in SpectSM #225 that he was the clone and Ben the original ... but then again, if Marvel had gone with that paradigm, wow, think of the stories that would have followed. It's not like Marvel hasn't dealt serious blows to the status quo since then. It's part of what keeps us coming back.

Nice, solid images on this page, Riz. I'm one of the many who despised this entire storyline, but the beauty for me is that I was always an artist follower. Since I always really enjoyed Bagley's art, I ultimately didn't care about the story. At my peak, I collected 80 titles per month. I imagine at least half of them was simply to look at the art!
