Description

Ladron is an amazing artist. I love his work on books such as Hip Flask, Cable and most recently Sons of El Topo. A true modern auteur in the footsteps of European comic book art greats.

Anyway, when I saw he was taking commissions I just had to jump on it.

I chose the following commission tier;
Close up/ Bust -
PAPER SIZE 9 x 12 Inches
SINGLE CHARACTER
BLACK INK / MARKER + COLOR SHADING
WITH SOME BACKGROUND

I think I may have gotten more than I paid for in terms of value as Ladronn enjoyed the subject of the commission so much! He also enclosed a lovely additional piece (Judge Dredd) as an unexpected extra - what a legend! Our correspondence was also interesting as we experienced lockdown on other ends of the world - Ladronn in California and myself in the UK

I have been collecting some GI Joe commissions where the theme is homage to the original covers.

The idea is that the artist does their own take on the image in the original published cover - but in their own style and not slavishly trying to recreate it exactly

Ladronn chose this one. In his words;

COVER 43 / GRIM REAPER with the M60 is the one I prefer most because I like horror things very much.

The face of the GRIM REAPER is amazing. I think I can do a great version of that cover in color.

Update - roughs
I have been working on the G.I.JOE cover, I finished the pencils and I�m about to add the color.
I was not sure if I should do it with some drawing lines or fully painted, but since this is a special version of that iconic cover, I was thinking that avoiding the black line work and see the art only with paint, this will add a realistic touch.

Since this image has a strong contrast, the skull face and fire coming from the M60 will be very dramatic.
I will be using a classic color palette, Cadmium Red, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Cobalt Blue, White and Ivory Black.

I saw that Ladronn started some commissions and I'll tell you that I didn't expect a 9 x 12 piece in color to 'pop' as much as this one did. Great content and great colors on the piece.
