DescriptionI love Garney art! I LOVE his Captain America! I owned this cover many years ago, and sold it and have regretted it ever since. Was soooooo happy when this was available and I was able to get it again, and now signed by Stan Lee! So a benefit to having sold it! Posting on Stan's 100th Birthday!Ron Garney pays homage to Jack Kirby for this classic redo of Captain America #100. Garney, who was the artist for two highly acclaimed runs of Captain America in the late 90s written by Mark Waid, returned to the character to create this variant cover for the Captain America Omnibus that reprinted the late Silver Age issues of Captain America that began with #100. Garney redoes the famous cover to this issue, the first time in the 1960s that Cap had his own title. The cover includes all of the same characters that Kirby used--Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther, Sub-Mariner, Giant Man, the Wasp and Cap's girlfriend Sharon Carter/Agent 13. The original story for #100 included a flashback to the famous scene in Avengers #4 where the original Avengers rescue Cap from the ice. That's why Giant Man, the Wasp and Iron Man all have their 1964 look on the original Kirby cover that was done in 1968 and Garney has kept those same designs for his redo. Garney did use a more contemporary look for Sharon Carter, perhaps to make her more recognizable to modern audiences. This is a beautiful piece for fans of classic Marvel featuring Garney's pure pencils. Social/Sharing |

May be comic art sacrilege to say, but I actually prefer this Omni cover to the Kirby version it's homaging.

Cap takes command to lead the Marvel Universe! Back then the image ushered in a new era of publishing where Marvel expanded the number of books they could publish. This homage by Garney signals a new era once more with Cap leading the way for Marvel's omnibus collections.

Garney is one of the best comic artists ofthe last 30+ years and his own run on Captain America is also one of the greatest in the character's history, yet still so underrated. Congrats, Nick, great piece!
