DescriptionFINALLY! I've wanted a John Romita Jr. page with Sub-Mariner for years! I'm a HUGE John Romita Jr. fan, and have pages with Daredevil, and of course Spider-Man. As I said, I've always wanted a page with Sub-Mariner, but I thought that was a lost cause. There's soooooooo few issues that JR Jr. drew with Subby, that it could not come to be. Then this Heritage auction hit, and I pushed this as higher as I thought reasonable, and then I went higher. But I was determined that this would be my final bid. I almost did a cut bid, but was talking to a friend who said, why do a cut bid here, if I cut bid, it's easier for someone to go over me, and if I then decide to go higher, then I have to do the new increments. I should let the other bidder(s) have to go the higher increment and then I would throw in the towel, but not hedge my bet here. So, what was my final bid, did it!The beauty of this page is, it's also inked by Jim Mooney. Jim complemented it to give it the best of John Jr, with the influence of John Sr whom Jim worked with for years, and inked previously. This is SUCH a great page! Namor the Sub-Mariner rushes off to exact revenge on Llyra for killing his beloved Dorma, but he might be too late! Meanwhile, Llyra, in human disguise as seen in Panels 4 and 5, has successfully fooled Spider-Man into trusting her with her fabricated beauty. Unbeknownst to Spidey, she and the rest of the Frightful Four launch a surprise attack when he least expects it. Can Namor reach Spider-Man in time to assist, or will his thirst for revenge drive him beyond reason? Social/Sharing |

And to think, my $0.11 bid nudged the increments to a dollar at the start. Spider-sense failed Spidey, but bidding sense won out. It's the reason why many auctions end on the same price because the next increment was going to be steep with the added 20% on top of it.

Excellent rendered page.
IMHO Romita JR was on top his non-Iron Man game during this era.

So glad your final last ditch bid won it for you and you have a page that means so much to you. Those Mooney inks are absolutely fantastic!
