DescriptionAs I mentioned, I'm really behind on my posts. I won this over a year ago. I've always wanted a page from The Death of Captain Marvel.A few things held me back over the years. Many of the pages were inked with marker and are fading. Prices have shot up. And the page wasn't the right page. I need to find a way to alleviate all 3. The right meaningful page that isn't faded is, on many levels, the most important part, and then budget accordingly. When this page hit, it was the page. Keep in mind, that this comic did something that no other comic had done before. A hero died from a disease - a regular human disease - cancer. Not battle, nothing heroic and tragic. Something normal and tragic. And on this page, Captain Marvel reveals to Mentor how he contracted the cancer that ravages his body, leading to the hero's tragic death in Marvel's historic first graphic novel! Jim Starlin provides the story and art for the traumatic tale that showed comic readers that even superheroes can succumb to human diseases as normal people do. Posting this on Christmas seems right as it feels like I won a gift. I am lucky and blessed to have won this page. Social/Sharing |

It's a career highlight of Jim Starlin. Very groundbreaking by being so emotionally honest about the death of a hero. Especially when it was one of his own signature characters.

I've had that page and the one before it for almost 20 years. Glad it went to a great home.

That's the beauty Captain Marvel dies, but the franchise lives on.

Very fine linework by Starlin (despite the fading marker inks, sadly)

Beautiful work. Sad to see the deterioration. Hope a solution can be found.

It would be a dream book for me too, but all the reasons you list mean I have to live vicariously through others. This is fantastic!

Love this era of Starlin's work.
Historic not only because of the story, but that it was Marve's first graphic novel.

A true Marvel milestone! Amazing pivotal page. The fading on these pages far from being something negative (IMHO) has contributed to grow thier value, mysticism and romanticism. I find this fact as a kind of metaphora like the slow death of a heroe.
