Description

I've had this for about 8 years, and it's about time I posted it. It's one of only 2 Juan Ortiz pages that I have. It's beautiful!

Wonder Woman, Black Canary and Supergirl talk to Jean Loring and then confront the male JLA members, who are being mind-controlled by Siren.

"No apologies, Ray. We both said things we regret. You were unfair to me... But I was unfair to you, too. All the years you were The Atom you were pursuing your career, just as I pursued mine as a lawyer. I once told you I wouldn't marry until I'd established myself in the law, and that was as unfair as your secret... Maybe more so. But love is about learning about yourself and your loved one... So let's keep on learning about ourselves... Now, and for all our tomorrows."
— Jean Loring

This Bronze Age Justice League of America #157 page has great character inclusion as the villainess Siren uses mind control to turn the male JLA members against the female members. As the JLA prepares for the wedding of long-time member the Atom AKA Ray Palmer and his long-time love Jean Loring, we see female members of the team, Wonder Woman and Black Canary, plus guest star Supergirl talking with Jean about some concerns she has with Ray keeping secrets from her. The three leading ladies of the DCU then go meet the male JLA members, who are up for a battle. We see Superman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Green Arrow and Elongated Man. Siren makes here slinky presence known in the final panel.

The wedding of the Atom and Jean Loring, which happened later in the issue featuring this page was one that probably should never have happened. Jean cheated on Ray and then later became a crazed murderer and the second Eclipso. It's hard being married to a superhero.

This original art, which has been colored, is the work of guest artist Juan Ortiz and regular inker Frank McLaughlin. Regular penciler Dick Dillin had only missed a single issue of the book going back to #64, a full decade before this issue, and he did some of the pages in this issue, but Juan Ortiz, who freelanced for both DC and Disney filled in on the chapter including this page. With McLaughlin's inks, it has a similar feel to Dillin.

What made Ortiz stop coloring for the last panel?

What a unique Justice League page. I'll have to pull that issue out of my JLA box and read it. It's a shame that it was colored like this.

Nice, a bevy of breathtakingly beautiful, beguiling, bronzed beauties basking beneath blossoming boughs beside a breezy bay!
