Description


Bruce Timm�s �cartoon� style was once considered 
too cartoon-y for mainstream comics. These days,
celebrated for the very style that once caused him
to be ignored, he�s highly-admired and highly-
collected. Too highly collected. There are scads if
wanna-be Timm rip-off artists offering a ton of faux-
Timm originals to unsuspecting OA collectors. His 
style appears deceptively easy. Some of the crooks 
aren�t bad. So what�s a collector to do?
 
In my case, I went to Timm�s dealer, Albert Moy,
to buy my original. There aren't any bargains to be
found at Albert's site, but no bogus Bruce, either. 
There, I was delighted to find this panel page from
"Tom Strong's Terrific Tales #11", drawn by Timm
and written by Alan Moore. Even better, the page came 
with a prelim drawn on thin paper.
 
In the story, Tesla Strong says she's "Not technically
a jungle-girl, but still." As it happens, I have a 
jungle-girl cover from a different series. I think I'll
post it this week, too.

Love the Bettie Page cameo. But it takes nothing away from Tesla herself! Congrats.

Published Timm panel pages are getting very rare as Timm has mostly done work in covers. Here, we can see his storytelling and the animation storyboarding flow of story and action!

As you say, his work does look deceptively easy but is highly skilled. Buying his art is a bit of a minefield for the exact reason that its easy to do a copy. Anyone with reasonable skills could knock out a 'Timm' but have only done one as I could not afford my favorite at the time and do not know who has the original. Nothing wrong with doing copies as long as you do not try and sell them as work by the artists themselves. There are so many bad copies and fakes out there. I will never be buying one off the site you got it from as I would not deal with Albert ever again. I have sound reasons for saying that.
